CONSAPEVOLEZZA DEL MOVIMENTO E COMPOSIZIONE ISTANTANEA
con VINCENT CACIALANO (11.00 – 14.00)

In questo workshop lavoreremo sul movimento e la composizione dall’interno verso l’esterno, concentrandoci sull’Improvvisazione come strumento per una maggiore consapevolezza e scelta. Cominceremo con un riscaldamento tecnico, utilizzando sia il lavoro al suolo che in piedi, enfatizzando l’integrazione corporea, il posizionamento del peso, l’energia e il chiaro inizio del movimento. Il riscaldamento è composto da esercizi fissati ed improvvisati e varia di intensità dal molto semplice al più complesso. Dopo il riscaldamento lavoreremo su esercizi di Composizione Istantanea con l’attenzione alla relazione tra Improvvisazione e Coreografia, esaminando spunti compositivi quali disegno nello spazio, tema e variazione, durata e arrangiamento. In particolare si considererà l’Improvvisazione come strumento per la performance di gruppo, e non solo per generare del materiale cinetico.
Brevi esercizi daranno inizio al processo di creazione di una performance di insieme attraverso l’Improvvisazione, definendo una struttura concettuale specifica, fornendo sfide e competenze di base.
A partire da queste abilità basilari di composizione ci si avventurerà in più complesse e lunghe improvvisazioni in cui il lavoro fatto verrà continuamente sfidato dalle estreme possibilità ed opzioni che l’Improvvisazione genera.
Vincent Cacialano (M.F.A.) si è formato con artisti quali Erick Hawkins, Alvin Nikolais, Meg Harper e Sharon Kinney.
E’ Docente Senior e Direttore del Dipartimento di Danza presso l’Università Metropolitan di Manchester.
Ha lavorato per molti anni in progetti di collaborazione con Katie Duck, la Dr.sa Sharon Smith e Michael Schumacher.
Ha danzato con rinomati improvvisatori come Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark-Smith e Pauline DeGroot, tra gli altri.
Ha danzato per Susan Rethorst, Maida Withers e Thomas Lehman, tra gli altri.
E’ membro del comitato artistico e di consulenza del “Dance and Somatic Practices Journal”. Danza le proprie coreografie in Europa e Stati Uniti.
Il suo lavoro è stato considerato come “una combinazione di una esecuzione forte e un umorismo fuori tempo” che mostra “forza, vitalità e una sicura abilità di danzatore” (The Washington Post)

L’esplorazione dei pattern di movimento prevertebrali come introduzione al lavoro con Vincent Cacialano e base per predisporre il corpo e la mente ad una dimensione di ascolto, percezione, disponibilità e prontezza nell’atto creativo.
Marcella Fanzaga si è diplomata in Danza Contemporanea presso la School for New Dance Development di Amsterdam, in Teatro Danza presso la Civica P. Grassi e in Danza Terapia con Maria Fux presso la Civica Scuola di Animazione Pedagogica e Sociale di Milano. Ha studiato a New York alla Erick Hawkins Dance Foundation ed al Limon Institute. Attualmente sta seguendo il percorso di formazione in Body-Mind Centering®
Ha danzato per coreografi quali Min Tanaka, Katie Duck e Masaki Iwana, facendo parte della compagnia di danza Butoh Habillé d’eau. Con le proprie coreografie ha partecipato a numerosi festival in Italia ed all’Estero. Ha orientato la propria ricerca approfondendo l’arte dell’improvvisazione, come composizione istantanea, collaborando con diversi musicisti tra cui Maddalena Zeiro, Alessandro Bosetti, Carlo Virzi, Fakhraddin Gafarov e Gianni Mimmo.
Da Novembre 2006 è Direttrice Artistica della rassegna di Danza Contemporanea “Uscite d’Emergenza” presso la Comuna Baires di Milano.
Da Ottobre 2008 è Ideatrice Curatrice di “Meeting Point-Under the Roof” progetto internazionale ed interdisciplinare di Improvvisazione e Composizione Istantanea in collaborazione con il Meeting Point Network Europeo.

MOVEMENT AWARENESS AND INSTANT COMPOSITION

In this workshop we will approach moving and composing from the inside out, focusing on Improvisation as a tool for greater awareness and option. We will begin with a technical warm up, utilizing both floor and standing work, that focuses on body integration, weight placement, stamina and clear initiation of movement. The warm up involves set and improvised exercises and varies in intensity from the very simple to the complex. It focuses on how basic movement patterns set the framework for more complex understanding. After the warm up we will work on Instant Composition exercises that focus on the relationship of Improvisation and Choreography, looking at compositional devises such as design, theme and variation, duration and arrangement. The approach to Improvisation specifically looks at Improvisation as an approach to performing in ensemble, not only as a tool for generating movement material. Short exercises will initiate the process of creating ensemble dance pieces through improvisation, setting up a specific conceptual framework, offering challenges and basic skills. From these basic composing skills we will venture into more complex and longer improvisations where the basic ground work we have set up is challenged by the extreme possibilities and options that Improvisation allows.
Vincent Cacialano (M.F.A.) received his early training from artists such as Erick Hawkins, Alwin Nikolais, Meg Harper and Sharon Kinney.
He is a Senior Lecturer and Program Leader for Dance at The Manchester Metropolitan University.
He has worked extensively in collaborative projects with Katie Duck, Dr. Sharon Smith and Michael Schumacher.
He has performed with renowned improvisors such as Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark-Smith and Pauline DeGroot, amongst others.
He has danced in the works by Susan Rethorst, Maida Withers and Thomas Lehman, amongst others.
He is a member of the artistic and advisory board of the dance and somatic practices journal and performs his own compositions through-out Europe and United States. His work has been reviewed as having "a combination of strong execution and off beat humor" and showing " strength, vitality and sure footed ability" (The Washington Post).
SOMATIC MOVEMENT AS A RESOURCE FOR INSTANT COMPOSING

The exploration of prevertebral movement patterns as an introduction to Vincent Cacialano’s work and as a base to open the body and the mind to listen, perceive, sense and be available and ready for the creative act.
Marcella Fanzaga graduated as a New Dance Performer at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam, in Theatre and Dance at the Civica Scuola d’Arte Drammatica P. Grassi and in Dance Therapy with Maria Fux at the Civica Scuola di Animazione Pedagogica e Sociale in Milano. She studied in New York at the Erick Hawkins Dance Foundation and at the Limon Institute. She is actually attending the Body-Mind Centering® training.
She danced for choreographer like: Min Tanaka, Katie Duck and Masaki Iwana, being a member of his Butoh Company “Habillé d’Eau”. With her choreographies she is performing in Italian festivals and theatres. She has researched and developed the art of improvisation collaborating with several musicians, like: Alessandro Bosetti, Maddalena Zeiro, Carlo Virzi, Fakhraddin Gafarov, Annamaria Cristian and Gianni Mimmo, among others.
Since November 2006 she is the Artistic Director of the Contemporary Dance Festival “Uscite di Emergenza” at Comuna Baires in Milano.
Since October 2008 she is the Curator of “The Meeting Point-Under the Roof”, international and interdisciplinary project of Improvisation and Instant Composition in collaboration with The Meeting Point European Network.
